Abstract: For a prediction of the sediment transport and bed-level changes in natural streams the simultaneous solution of the flow continuity and momentum as well as the sediment continuity equation is needed. The model (called FCM) used in this paper couples the three governing equations and is thus suitable to treat the sediment-transport problem under unsteady flow conditions in rivers with irregular geometries. The four-point implicit finite-difference schem e of Preissm ann is used to discretize the governing equations. The stability and convergence characteristics of this scheme are reviewed. The discretized system of algebraic equations is solved by an economic and accurate solution procedure. The emphasis of this paperlies on the laboratory verification of them odel; a comparison between model predictions and flume measurements is made. Consequently criteria for computations are proposed.
