Abstract: Bottom currents in small and medium size lakes have been mainly related onlyeither to the wind pattern,or to the wind set up and internal seiche phenomena(Lemmnin et al.,1987).However the gravitational circulation due to thedifferential in heating may, sometimes,be very important and can become thedominant mass-transport mechanism(Imberger et al.1982).The failure ofstandard oceanographic instrumentation in small lakes for measuring thesecurrents, due to the adjustments in the density field, seems to be the cause of thisomission.
