Abstract: A set of flume tests has been conducted at Laboratoire National d'Hydraulique of Electricite de France, on a rubble mound breakwater with three different groupiness factors (GF) under non breaking wave conditions, in order to study both the characteristics of wave generated with the SIWEH method and the influence of GF on the breakwater stability. The generation of waves with the SIWEH method seems to present some shortcomings because it does not satisfy the Kimura's theory, at least at low values of GF, and, under the conditions tested, the breakwater stability is significantly sensitive to GF variations.
