Abstract: Sea port vater areas are subject to different hydrometeorological ef-fecta vith the wave action playing a key role. The range of sea waves isfairly vide covering short vind waves and tsunami, and longttidal waves. If the vlnd wave action in ports has been thoroughly studied, the effectsof long waves and the resultant wave behaviour need further investigations. This can be explained by both a more occasional recurrence of the latterand a wider range of problems encountered during the analysis of this typeinteraction. In fact if the study of the port-wind wave interaction gene-rally aime at a diffraction pattern for the port water area,in case oflong waves one deals with problems related with poseible submergence ofthe area and strueture stability.Besides, the wave behaviour(or diffrac-tion pattern)resulting in the port vater area from the long wave trans-formation considerably differs from the wave behaviour under the wind waveeffect. The long vave periods can have the order of the proper water areaperiods giving rise to problems of seiche oscillations /i,27.
