Abstract: North-western winds on the North Sea generate major surges of up to 3 metersalong the Dutch and Belglan coate,shich are only partly dampened by therelease of water through the Dover Straits.See figure 1. The shallow North sea ie comparatively sensitive for meteorological forcing·As the ant1-clockwlse depresslons often follow a path through the Northernparts of the North Sea,strong North-western vinds may oecur on the North Seawhich coineide with its main North-western axis.See also ref.【1].
