Abstract: A 3-D mathematical model for circulation in coastal areas was applied jointly with a Lagrangian model for particle tracking to consider transport processes during a BURA wind episode in the Northern Adriatic. A specific BURA wind event in 1982 was taken for the comparison of the numerical results with CZCS- data of NIMBUS 7 for the chlorophyll distribution. The simulation period covered 12 days and the barotropic circulation was forced by a northeasterly wind variable in time and space.
