Abstract: Computations with a depth-averaged k-ε-model and measurements in the scale model of a square harbour show that the turbulence in the harbour is mainly generated in the mixing layer in the harbour entrance and convected through the harbour. The applicability of a constant eddy viscosity in depth-averaged flow computations is shown and a value for this eddy viscosity is determined.
