Abstract: The mathematical model Fluvius based on a numerical integration (FDM) of the complete non-linear equations for 2D unsteady flow in horizontal plane is presented. In the flow equations hydrostatic pressure distribution is assumed. The algorithm used in the mathematical model is based on a fractional step method in which wave propagation is evaluated using an Alternating Direction Implicit Algorithm (ADI), momentum advection terms are calculated using the modified method of characteristics. The algorithm is completed by diffusive interface enable to the user to control rate of numerical diffusion during calculations. The above mentioned algorithm has been incorporated in the computational module of the Fluvius package. Flooding and drying of flood plain, wind effect and various methods for bed resistance have been taken into account. The basic description of the mentioned methods, as well as its application to several numerical test cases, calibrations and a study in real topography, are described.
