Abstract: An application of the general purpose code N3S, developed by Electricte de France, to the modelization of the flow around drillng bits is presented here. This code solves the 3D NavierStokes equations for Newtonian fluids with turbulence modelling and it uses finite elements method. The numerical results obtained in this study are in good agreement with experimental results. This is why the use of N3S for improving the design of drilling bits is now under way.
