Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to report on the results of an investigation into theperformance of a mathematical model based on the McCormack scheme. No solutionof the differencial equations willlead to the correct results unless the boundaryconditions are properly treated,i.e.,in accordance with the dynamic state of the flow.During time evoluton the flow may vary its conditions(Froude number for instance)andthe mathematical simulation should be able to automatically accomodate all thesechanges. It is well known that the method of characteristics is the only generaltechnique for finding boundary conditions for explicit finite difference schemes. It will be shown how this has been devised and various examples of general one-dimensional practical cases willdemonstrate the adaptability of the method to hydraulicstudies.
