Abstract: The paper reports on the application of a Reynolds-stress-transport model of turbulence to the calculation of turbulent mixing layers subjected to strong stable stratification. The model used here is one which correctly predicts a wide range of "com plex" shear flows involving streamline curvature, rotation and swirl. It differs from other second-order closures in one important aspect: its good performance for "com plex" flows do es not depend on the coordinate system used. The present work continues the verification process by examining the model's performance in strong stratification.
