Abstract: A computational model was developed for the simulation of a dam break flood wave. In order to compute the flood wave, the Saint Venant equations, under the divergent form, in one dimension, were numerically solved using the MacCormack scheme (a second order, accurate in both space and time, explicit-finite-difference, two-step scheme). A short introduction to the computational model is presented. A sensitivity analysis was made in order to analyse the importance of the failure mode (temporal and geometrical description of the dam breach).
