Abstract: Withdrawals of constant discharges from an open channel require maintaining aconstant water depth in it.However, irrigation conveyance systems are subjectto unsteady flow conditions, which generally cause water levels to changecontinuously during the day and from day to day. This demands frequentadjustments of check structures, which in turn affect upstream and downstreamlevels. As a consequence, the desired level corrections are reached only aftermore or less long times.
