Abstract: Pressure fluctuations of a high-velocity jet acting on a spillway flip bucket are ofgreat importance, as they may cause structural vibrations, fatigue of materials and cavitation damage. The problems increase whenever these pressure fluctuations coincide with a hydraulic jump in the flip bucket. Special attention has to be paid to the hydrodynamic loads on the bottom of those flip buckets used as a power-house roof for a hydroelectric project. The results of the hydraulic model tests [l] presented in this paper demonstrate their application to particular design problems.
