Abstract: Flume experiments with two-and three-dimensionally set permeable groins were carried out and a theoretical analysis was applied to velocity fields of flow over and around permeable groins, including permeating flow. The unexpected result appeared from the two-dimensional experiments that permeating flow velocity takes on two fold-values under in adequate conditions for the porosity of grain, even under identical hydraulic conditions in main flow. A three-dimensional analysis of flow around the groin was performed, based on the above results and the assumption of two-dimensional wake flow, and by considering a lateral transfer of longitudinal momentum. A theoretical solution for the velocity fields was obtained with singular perturbation method. Qualitative agreement between experimental and theoretical was found.
