Abstract: The changes in bankline, mean bed level and cross sectional area of the river Brahmaputra within the reach from Charnatua to Aricha in between 1965-'66 and 1983-'84 were studied using cross section maps. Variation of these changes with distance was investigated. Relative dominance of erosion or deposition, reachwise and at the confluences with the tributaries and distributaries, was determined. The net material eroded and carried away from the reach within this18 years period was calculated.
