Abstract: Various types of waves on the surface, such as gravity waves and seiches, and at the thermocline, such as internal seiches, inertial and nearinertial waves, have been measured on the Lake of Geneva. Hydrodynamical models are used to (partially) explain these observations. The importance of waves, notably of internal ones and their effect on mixing is discussed.
