Abstract: Two rapid hydrographical surveys employing the high resolution Kiel-Multisonde are com pared to coincident results from one-dim ensional calculations of the annual cycle of stratification by the m athematical model DYRESM (Pattersson et al., 1984, Wei and Ham blin, 1986). The standard model was m odified by an im proved specification of vertical eddy diffusivity, the inclusion of more rapid particle settling in the riverine plume than in the lake and the accounting for shear-production due to the cross-lake internal seiching in the mixed layer formulation.
