Abstract: Hydraulic jumps in a two-layer flow have been described by making use of a momentum equation for each of the layers, or by assuming that the specific energy is conserved in one of them. Another option, proposed here, is to assign a Borda-Carnot energy loss to the layer undergoing the weaker jump. The results are compared with experimental data by Wood and Simpson (1984).
