Abstract: Although in many rivers floods are anextremely unsteady phenomenon, approaches of sediment transport and river bed changes are made from steadystate conditions. Recent experimental work allows to assess the effect of flowvariability on erodible channels in contrast to the use of steady state trans-port formula.
