Abstract: The paper describes the conjunctive use of mathematical and physical models to investigate the tide induced circulation and flushing characteristics within rectangular harbours. A comparison of the results obtained from both modelling procedures highlights the scaling problems of using distorted Froudian physical models, particularly with respect to flushing studies.
