The Use of Physical Models to Develop Numerical Wave Models

Abstract: Many coastal numerical models have been developed and tested against simple physical models or laboratory data, and thus incorporate the same limita-tions as the physical representations. An example is given of a linear wave re-fraction model which does not reproduce measurements from a highly simplified physical experiment.
