Abstract: The use of historical storms for generation of peak flows was proposed by severalauthors as an alternative to the widespread, simple concept of design storms.Pre-vfous studes did not consider the influence of watershed characteristics such asarea, percentage of impervousness, ete.,and did not compare several distrfbutionfunctions(Marsalek,1978).In order to assess these aspects,a set of rafnfalldata in Ottawa was used with a simple,user-friendly microcomputer program calledMINI-OTTHYNO.The URBHYD submodel of MINI-OTTHYM0 was previous1y tested with goodresu1ts by using data on measured rainfal1-runoff events from various urban water-sheds.
