On the Use of Monitoring Data of Neighboring River in Physical Habitat Simulation

Abstract: This study investigated the impact of using monitoring data in neighboring streams in the physical habitat simulation. A 2. 5km long reach located downstream of a dam is selected for the study area. Zacco platypus was monitored to be a dominant species in the study area. The CCHE2D model and GEP model were used for hydraulic and habitat simulations, respectively. Data collected in three neighboring streams were used for comparisons. Observed population of the target species was plotted against the velocity, flow depth, and substrate. This indicated that the Chogang Stream data are similar to the Dal River data. The distributions of the Composite Suitability Index (CSI) were predicted by the physical habitat simulations with data of the neighboring streams. The results were compared with the CSI distribution of the Dal River. It was found that the CSI distribution predicted with the Chogang Stream data is most similar to the CSI distribution of the Dal River. Finally, the principal component analysis was performed to see the transferability of data to the study area.
