Abstract: It is proposed that open-channel confluences can be interpreted, at least in some cases, as an oblique, curved, confined, asymmetric jets (i. e., tributaries) in crossflows (i. e., ‘main’ flows). The proposed interpretation is employed in the analysis of laboratory experiments demonstrating its soundness and potential for developing new experiments and predictive relations.
