Abstract: In this study, the relationship between meteorological fields and linear rainfall bands was analyzed for the western Chugoku region using Self-Organizing Map (SOM) with three parameters: equivalent temperature, wind speed with an east-west and north-south component. The SOM created in this study showed that meteorological fields in Group 7, Group 22, Group 27, and Group 31 are at high risk for the occurrence of linear rainfall bands. The results showed that in the western Chugoku region, the southwesterly winds bring hot and humid air from the East China Sea, which influences the development of linear rainfall bands. In addition, the location of linear rainfall bands was found to be characteristic of each group in SOM.
