Abstract: The influence of different sizes of bucket foundation structures on the horizontal bearing characteristics of suction pile dams is investigated. Finite element analysis is employed, utilizing a displacement loading control method to modify the length, width, and height of the bucket foundation of the suction pile dam while maintaining consistent relevant parameters. The horizontal bearing capacity characteristics of various bucket foundation structure sizes are examined. The results indicate that, within a certain range, the horizontal bearing capacity of the suction pile dam increases with the length, width, and height of the bucket foundation. Specifically, compared to the standard group, the bearing capacity of the bucket foundation length is enhanced by 14%, the bearing capacity of the bucket foundation width is enhanced by 7.3%, and the bearing capacity of the bucket foundation height is enhanced by 16.4%. As the structural size of the suction pile dam increases, notable changes in the plastic strain region are observed, with a pronounced wedge equivalent plastic strain present in the soil on the side of the passive zone of the suction pile dam. The findings suggest that larger structural sizes lead to higher bearing capacity for the suction pile dam. These results provide a valuable reference for further structural selection and optimization in the design of suction pile dams.
