Abstract: This study evaluated variations in flooded areas based on rainfall patterns with different return periods and assessed the flood damage mitigation performance of low impact development (LID) in Gwangju City, Republic of Korea, using the Personal Computer Storm Water Management Model (PCSWMM). Rainfall patterns were generated using the Huff quartile method to analyze urban flooding trends based on the timing of peak rainfall during a two-hour duration. The simulation results revealed that flooded areas increased as the peak rainfall occurred later in the rainfall event and with longer return periods. Three types of LID–bio-retention cell, green roof, and vegetative swale–were employed in the flooded areas to compare their damage mitigation performance. The comparison results indicated that the bio-retention cell was the most effective in reducing flooded areas.
