Abstract: Debris accumulations can form against bridges during floods, amplifying the water rising upstream of the clogged structures. In this paper, experimental data gained in the framework of the EMFloodResilience project are reanalysed with a focus on the first stage of clogging and its further stabilization. The analysis suggests a new analytical model to predict backwater rise depending on accumulated volume, which is different from the approach proposed in the literature. New experimental tests are scheduled to confirm these findings and ultimately increase the accuracy of prediction models to be accounted for in flood mapping numerical models.
