Abstract: Waterlogging is a significant issue in water management systems, particularly in regions with extensive irrigation networks or areas prone to high rainfall. It occurs when the water table rises close to or above the ground surface, leading to saturated soil conditions that hinder agricultural productivity, damage infrastructure, and disrupt ecosystems. The Dorika River basin has a number of sluice gates that are intended to control the accumulation of water, redirect water flow, and adjust water levels. But during monsoon and the period of higher water levels of Brahmaputra, water backs up and accumulates near these gates, causing waterlogging in the Dorika River basin. Inadequate drainage systems or poor gate maintenance are frequently the cause of waterlogging next to a sluice gate. In this study, the flows under existing sluice gate operation, with increased gate width, and with pumps installed in the Dorika river basin were simulated using a two-dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic model. More efficient floodwater drainage was achieved by installing pumps rather than widening the gate.
