Abstract: In this study, the 3D numerical modeling of high-velocity jets impacting on the lined plunge pools is implemented using Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software (FLOW-3D®). Numerical results are compared with previous experimental results [1], [2] with similar jet and pool configurations and will be validated in future with new experimental data from facility developed in Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC). The influence of mesh size and turbulence model are highlighted in this paper. The present work provides conclusions whether the numerical model is efficiently representing the hydrodynamics of the plunge pool, emphasizing the necessary computational effort.
