Abstract: When an infinite wave train encounters a submerged plate, a suction upward is observed at the leading edge of the obstacle. The smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is used to study this mechanism in 2D and compared to experimental observations. The pump characteristics are numerically evaluated through a pump performance graph.
