Abstract: Extraction of sand from the river bed causes change in river morphology and flow structure. There is a necessity to study the turbulent flow structure in a sand mined channel. In this research, an experimental investigation of sand mining has been carried out in a laboratory flume. The turbulent kinetic energy fluxes (TKE) in the stream wise and vertical to the flow directions are calculated from the instantaneous velocity fluctuation. Analysis of the TKE fluxes in the mining pit region shows an increase in near bed fluxes in both directions than that of upstream of the pit region.
