Abstract: Dunes are common large-scale bedforms in sand-bed rivers that can affect significantly the hydraulic roughness and water levels. Here ongoing investigations on the evolution of river dunes are briefly described. The spatial and temporal development of solitary sand dunes is currently investigated at laboratory scale.
