On the Use of Averaged Indices to Estimate Lakes’ Warming

Abstract: Averaging is necessary for large-scale and long-term analyses, like those concerning the thermal response of lakes to climate change. However, the choice of the averaging windows is not neutral. We discuss the limits of some widely used metrics and the possible mystification of the underlying dynamics.
