Abstract: Recently conducted simulations have provided important information about the dependency of particle motion in an open channel on its shape. For example, spherical particles inherently tend to roll whereas spheroids – oblate and prolate – have almost zero angular velocity in negative spanwise direction due to their orientation. Triaxial-ellipsoids, on the other hand, behave in between these two extreme cases. In this study, first results on the effect of such a small-scale difference on the large scales of sediment transport are presented.
