Abstract: The poster represents two examples of timber retention dams in the Province of Trento designed and created by the Servizio Bacini Montani in the last years in the Autonomous Province of Trento (Italy). The control of vegetation in the riverbed is a very important aspect in the maintenance of watercourses. However, it is necessary to find the right balance between the quantity and the sizes of the plants living near the riverbed to reduce problems during a flood event. In hydrographic basins where the presence of the arboreal vegetation is very important, works specifically designed to hold the floating material have been realized. Two examples have been chosen: in the Fersina torrent it has been designed and built a timber trap; in the Maggiore torrent they have been designed and built two structures in series: the first for the wood retention, and the second for the debris flow events.
