Abstract: This paper presents an investigation of scour around a bridge pier protected with riprap. The presence of riprap alters the flow by redirecting the streamlines around the riprap and causing turbulence. This structure affects the overall morphology and stability of the riverbed downstream. The aim of this study is to establish numerical model in Flow-3D and examine how different numerical configuration affect scour patterns at the initial scour stage downstream of such a specific structure. The findings of this study highlight the significant impact of varying numerical setups, not only on scour depth but also on the various scour patterns downstream of the protected pier, indicating the importance of employing an appropriate calibration procedure by comparing numerical results with experimental data.
