Abstract: Efficient management of dense effluent discharges, such as those from desalination plants, is critical to mitigating environmental impacts in coastal areas. Submerged diffusers are commonly used to release these effluents, but predicting their mixing behavior in dynamic coastal environments remains challenging. This study represents the first application of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) to analyze the behavior of inclined dense jets in cross-flow (JICF) conditions. The simulations focus on jets discharged at a 60° angle to the horizontal and are validated against experimental data. The findings underscore LES’s capability to capture complex flow dynamics and contribute to improving the accuracy of mixing behavior predictions, ultimately supporting efforts to mitigate environmental risks associated with dense effluent discharges.
