Abstract: Based on the operation status of the Three Gorges Reservoir and the impacts of four cascade reservoirs downstream of the Jinsha River, this study mainly focuses on the impacts of the varying outflows from the Xiangjiaba Reservoir on the navigation benefit of the upper Yangtze River waterway from Yibin to Fuling. Based on the predictors of stable channel depth and waterway bearing capacity, the ship tonnage and the waterway bearing capacity under different outflow scenarios are evaluated. By integrating the freight rates of typical routes and analyzing the ship type proportion transiting the Three Gorges Reservoir navigation locks, the study quantifies the economic effect of larger vessel proportions.
