Abstract: There is extensive research on the adaptation procedures of water infrastructure systems to climate change that typically employ Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessments (CRVAs). Unfortunately, this research is not considered in the design guidelines for water infrastructure systems, because simply it is not communicated to design guidelines developers. The design of water infrastructure systems in climate change conditions and the procedure of their adaptation to climate change can be significantly improved when this communication is accomplished via the use a “common language” between researchers and guidelines’ developers. One of the first possible actions towards this “common language” is the typologization of research via its classification into categories that correspond to the CRVA steps. The creation of this “common language” can be facilitated when the CRVAs are related to the design guidelines. In the present work, some ideas on how to achieve this relationship using the “components” of water infrastructure as links are presented and discussed.
