Abstract: Ultrasonic transit-time method is very popular in the open channel flow determination. In general, transducers are evenly arranged, which might not well describe the velocity distribution by limited transducers. Thus, a series of physical model tests were conducted and the results showed that the transducers should be increased near the bed to improve the flow measurement accuracy. By contrast, the transducers where hi/H lies between 0.1~0.7 can be reduced appropriately without losing flow measurement accuracy obviously. The relative results were used in the design of the open channel flow meter, and the tested results showed that the indication errors of the flow measurements are smaller than ±0.36%, and the corresponding expanded uncertainty are smaller than 0.36% (k = 2).
