Abstract: Accurate reproduction of hydrodynamic and solute mixing processes within cylinder arrays is vital for many environmental modelling applications. This study unravels the ability of second-order discontinuous Galerkin (DG2) solvers, of both the shallow water equations and the advection diffusion equation, in accurately reproducing these processes using orders-of-magnitudes coarser resolution than ANSYS Fluent’s simulations. These DG2 solvers are a useful alternative to support a wider range of applications and/or larger-scale studies while meeting practical resolution and cost needs.
