Abstract: The present work discusses the results of a one-year long field experimental campaign aimed at monitoring three different full-scale pilot installations of blue roof (BR) systems for the control of stormwater runoff in urban areas. The three pilots are installed in the roof terrace of a building in the campus of the University of Catania (Italy) and are based on the use of tray modules, artificial turf and marble pebbles. Highest performances are shown by the modular BR, with mean 53% runoff reduction and mean 67% flow peak attenuation. BR with turf revealed mean 31% runoff reduction and mean 51% flow peak attenuation while the one with pebbles showed the lowest retention and detention efficiencies (24%).
