Abstract: The process of discharging effluent with higher density in marine areas with lower density can be extremely harmful to the environment due to the deposition of hypersaline and chemical wastes on the seabed. This process causes the formation of negative buoyant jets, which occur during industrial wastewater discharge, such as brine from desalination plants. In order to determine the environmental impact and to select the appropriate geometry and flow conditions, it is crucial to know their behavior for different flow conditions and outfall geometries. Numerical simulations are helpful for detailed investigations of complex mixing behavior for buoyant jets and are cheaper than experimental investigations. Therefore, in this work, the results of RANS and LES numerical simulations of negatively inclined buoyant jets are compared with experimental results from the literature. Compared results include velocities field, concentration, calculation times, and negatively inclined buoyant jet trajectories.
