Abstract: An Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) scheme incorporating switching techniques through split flux is developed to simulate dam break flood wave propagation in two-dimensions. A combination of implicit and explicit schemes solves X-momentum and Y-momentum equations independently and results in a two step solution routine based on the division of one time step into two half time steps. Flows with simultaneous presence of supercritical and subcritical regions can be analysed by the proposed model. Details of the model and various boundary and initial conditions are described. Illustrative problems are analysed to demonstrate applicability of the proposed model.
