Abstract: Relatively little has been presented in western science about the considerable knowledge which the Australian Aborigines possessed over thousands of years about hydrology. With the coming of the white man to the continent of Australia the original inhabitants were disinherited and much of their knowledge was lost or minimised. Aborigines did not claim land ownership originally, they rather claimed that they were owned by the land. This established amongst them a close relationship to the land and the environment They have a remarkably deep knowledge of the country, including its water resources at ground level and below the land surface.
