Abstract: Prevention and control of overag gradation in mountain rivers is crucial for the reduction of damages produced by floods. A widely used structural measure to intercept sediments along the hydrologic network and reduce overaggration by spreading deposition over large areas is the construction of closed or permeable check dams. Correct design of such structures requires appropriate mathematical tools for the sim ulations of sediment transport phenomena. A number of different models for the simulation of the morphological evolution of mountain streams are applicable to different circumstances.
