Hydraulic Problems of the Construction of a Tidal Barrage in Coast City

Abstract: 1.Shanghai,the largest city of china is located at front area of the delta of Yangtze river.Huangpu River and Suzhou River across the city.There is always typhoon,high tide andrainstorm in the flood season.So,the municipality flood control system is very important forthe city. The flood protective wall along the main stream of the Huangpu River and Suzhou Riveris the main part of the flood control system of Shanghai,until now,the whole length of floodprotective wallof Shanghai is 256 km,but the designing standard of these walls are only toprotect 100-year flood.Recent years the recorded tidal level had breaked twice the historichighest tidal level.On September 1,1981,the tidal level reached 5.22 meter,it was 2-3 meterhigher than the crest level of the flood protective wall.
