Abstract: Under normal wave conditions,a harbor sea is far more affected by diffracted waves fromthe harbor entrance than transmitted waves which have overtopped the breakwater. In the eventof an extreme large wave or unusual sea level, however, the effect of transmitted waves cannotbe ignored.Only a few research projects have been carried out to investigate the behavior ofwaves that have overtopped the breakwater and propagated three-dimensionally in the harbor.Among them is research carried out by Takagaki et al.(1985),which assumed transmittedwaves caused by uni-directional irregular waves had multi-directional spreading. In this paper,to appreciatory make the directional spreading model of transmitted wavescaused by overtopping the beakwater, the directional spectrum of transmitted waves isinvestigated experimentally, and the methodology of simulate harbor waves with transmittedwaves by taking their directional spreading into consideration.
